Mr. Dennis Coffman has been selected for the induction into the Potosi Trojan Hall of Fame for 2025/26 school year.

Dennis is a 1964 graduate of Potosi High School. While in school, he was very involved in extra-curricular activities including: Baseball, Basketball, Boys Glee Club, A Capella Choir, Escort for Miss Potosi Contest, Escort for Senior Maid in the Basketball Homecoming and served as a Sophomore Server.

Dennis was a top scorer in the 1964 basketball season and was the overall scoring leader as well as the rebound leader under the direction of Coach Wally Barrows. As a Senior, he was named to the All-District team selected by sportswriters and coaches in the area. He was named to the first team Class L Squad.

Dennis started playing baseball at the age of eight, playing in area Little Leagues, Pony Leagues, Babe Ruth Leagues, and American Legion teams as well as playing for the Potosi Trojans. He was a star right-handed pitcher.

In 1966 at the age of 20, he was signed by the Cincinnati Reds and assigned to their Tampa Farm Club. While training for the Cincinnati Reds, he trained with Gary Nolan-well- known as a major league pitcher for the Reds and Johnny Bench, major league catcher for the Reds.

After his baseball career ended, he came back home to Potosi and worked for Pea Ridge Mining Company. He had a lasting career which started out as Continental Telephone, then became Contel, to GTE/Verizon. He worked as an Infrastructure Provisioning Coordinator and Analyst OSP Construction.

Dennis’ love for basketball, baseball and most of all his Potosi High School has been steadfast all these years. Dennis, his parents, all three children and two grandchildren all attended Potosi High School.

Dennis was married to the late Bonnie Bobbett Coffman and is married to Cristina Coffman and they make their home in Valley Park.

Dr. George Cresswell

George Cresswell graduated from Potosi High School in 1913, its second graduating class. The class included just 2 graduates, George Cresswell and Joseph Thurman, both who would complete medical school and return to the county for lifelong parallel careers in medical service. Dr. Cresswell was a charter member of the Potosi Lions Club and the Potosi Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Cresswell served as Mayor of Potosi from 1940 to 1946 and on the Potosi R-3 School Boards for many years. He helped with the formation of the Washington County Health Department. Dr. Cresswell supported construction of the Washington County Memorial Hospital, became the hospital’s first Chief of Staff,and remained a member of its medical staff until his passing. Dr. Cresswell was a 50 year member of Masonic Lodge 131 AF AM, Heart Association member, Farm Bureau member and the Wildlife Protection Association. He received a 50 year certificate of practice from the American Medical Association. He also served as a Deputy Sheriff. Dr. Cresswell was a member and loyal supporter of the Potosi United Methodist Church.
